Institution:
Arcadia University
Subject:
Description:
The course uses studies of the human figure to explore the principles of drawing and painting. Students will learn to use line and gesture, and to model light and dark in order to understand and accurately represent the human form. While the course is based on traditional methods of picture-making, students will be encouraged to experiment and find their own solutions to the problems of representation. Students are exposed to various wet and dry media, such as charcoal, ink wash, and pastel. Critiques will be held regularly in order to familiarize students with the act of criticism and dialogue, both fundamental to the artist.
