The purpose of the course is to study, discuss and appreciate fiction in English by and about women from different parts of the world as well as from different cultures. The course concentrates almost exclusively on fiction of the 1980s and the 1990s. The emphasis is on a comparative examination of recent fiction and of recent views of women. Topics for discussion include: women and sexuality, social class, race, motherhood, and economic exploitation. Videos and visits by the writers supplement the assigned reading.
