This course teaches the basic skills of black and white photography with a 35mm reflex camera. Students photograph life in Ortigia, its historic sites, piazza, curches, people, markets and harbors. They will: photograph portraits, architectural details, narratives, landscape; refine skills with films, peper, camera lenses, apertures, shutter speeds, processing, printing and presentation. The class includes lectures, group and individuals tutorials, peer evaluations, critiques, demonstrations, practical projects, historical studies, and assigned readings. The final project is a black and white portfolio documenting students' Sicilian experience. Note. Equipment required (you will need to arrive with a 35mm manual camera in good working order, film/paper may be purchased on site). AUC Designation: Ce
