This is an introductory course to the Institutions, policies and current political issues of the global political system. It includes an analysis of the most imprtant International Relations theories, as well as the policy0making structures and functions of the international institutions. The course will include a combination of lecture and discussions as well as a series of individual presentations. More specifically, the course analyses the following issues and concepts: The main theoretical paradigms and approaches; the institutions and the rules of the global political system; the globalization process; the global political agenda; the Interntaional Civil society; the Non-Governmental-Organisations (NGO's); global terrorism, rogue/failed States; the War on terrorvs. the European security system; the United nations system; peacekeeping/peace builiding/peace-enforcement global security; multilateralism.
