Institution:
Arcadia University
Subject:
Description:
This course is designed for students with no or little prior knowledge of the Greek language. It introduces reading and writing skills but mostly develops oral comprehension and oral expression skills. By the end of the course, students will be able to practice basic communicative tasks as well as to read and produce simple texts. Most importantly, however, it will help students familiarize with certain aspects of Greek culture. To this end, students will be motivated to interact with Greek people and to develop an interest in Greek society and culture, thus allowing them to have a more rewarding experience while in Greece. Greek language instruction begins intensively during the orientation of the first week. Thereafter, classes meet twice a week. As an integral part of The Greek Key: Language in a Cultural Landscape cultural immersion seminar, the language learning experience will allow students to unlock the door to cross cultural understanding, providing the means to communicate and explore Greek culture in an in-depth way.
