The history, cultures, and communities of racial and ethnic minorities in America are examined. Particular attention is paid to identifying the unique position and contribution of various groups to American culture in different historical periods. The course is based upon sociological and historical research, as well as novels and short stories documenting the lives of different groups. Note: This course can be used to satisfy a university Core Studies in Race, Writing Intensive, and American Culture (XC) requirement. Although it may be usable towards graduation as a major requirement or university elective, it cannot be used to satisfy any of the university GenEd requirements.
