This course is an introduction to Japanese
Buddhism, covering some of the major
Buddhist figures including Kukai, Dogen,
Shinran, Hakuin, Takuan, and Myoe. In order
to understand how Japanese Buddhism
accepted Indian and Chinese Mahayana
Buddhism, the course traces some of the
prominent conceptual frameworks of
Mahayana Buddhism which were developed in
India and China. The methodological
orientation of the course is philosophical or
intellectual.
