This course introduces the roles and mission of the Army, Army customs and traditions, and the personal challenges and competencies that are critical for effective leadership. You will learn how the personal development of life skills such as goal setting, time management, physical fitness and stress management relate to leadership, officership and the Army profession. The focus is on developing basic knowledge and comprehension of Army leadership dimensions while gaining a big picture understanding of the ROTC program, its purpose in the Army, and its advantages for the student. While this class is available for open enrollment, students that have formally contracted into the ROTC program must maintain a minimum aggregate GPA of 2.0. Contracted Cadets failing to maintain a minimum aggregate GPA of 2.0 in all Military Science courses are subject to adverse action or dismissal from the program. Contracted Cadets who do not earn at least a C grade in a Military Science course must gain approval from the instructor to register for additional Military Science courses. Students registering for courses for which they have previously received academic credit are advised that repeat courses will not result in additional academic credit.

Note: Students must participate in one weekend exercise. Leadership lab is required for Army ROTC students. The student will receive hands on training in drill and ceremonies, field craft, individual movement techniques, squad tactics, map reading and land navigation, first aid, and use and maintenance of the M16 Rifle.
