This is a general survey of the main currents in American history since 1877. Since the 1870s, the people of the United States have struggled over the meaning of equality, the practice of democracy, the politics of economic development, and the role of the United States in the world. This course will explore these themes and others in order to analyze the history of the modern United States. Note: This course can be used to satisfy the university Core American Culture (AC) requirement. Although it may be usable towards graduation as a major requirement or university elective, it cannot be used to satisfy any of the university GenEd requirements.
