This course is an introductory survey of research methods in Geography and Urban Studies. Students examine the role of theory in shaping methods and ethical principles of research before beginning a series of exercises in which they collect and analyze primary and secondary data. Students work with methods that include mapping, interviewing, and analyzing census data. The emphasis on methods may vary by section. Individual assignments build towards a community or neighborhood profile or research project. This is a writing intensive course.

Note: Students typically take this course in their junior or senior year. Non-majors only with permission of the instructor. Mode: Seminar.
