This course emphasizes the preparation of organic compounds using methods currently used in the modern chemical laboratory. Literature sources and spectroscopic methods are extensively used. The safe use of aggressive reagents, the use of and the design of multistep syntheses are emphasized. The environmental impact of method choice is treated.

Note: This course can count as one of the three advanced laboratory courses required for the degree to be certified by the American Chemical Society.
