This course will explore the construction of artistic identity and style from the mid-fifteenth century to the early-seventeenth century through visual analyses, readings of contemporary sources (biographies/autobiographies, art treatises, and correspondences), and modern scholarship in an attempt to demystify the “Masters” of the Italian Renaissance.

Note: Field trips are mandatory for this class.
