A survey of historical, social, political, and cultural developments in African American experience in the U.S. Topics include: enslavement, the Civil War and Reconstruction, Harlem Renaissance, Garveyism, the great migration, depression and labor unions, the New Deal and the WPA, African-American involvement in the nation’s wars, Civil Rights, Black Power, black arts movement, and Black Panthers.Note: This course can be used to satisfy the university Core Studies in Race (RS) requirement. Although it may be usable towards graduation as a major requirement or university elective, it cannot be used to satisfy any of the university GenEd requirements.
