PREREQUISITES: Weld1110 and the consent of the Instructor/Advisor. Exit Notice: Students may be required to pass course proficiency tests before proceeding to other program content. COURSE COMPETENCIES: Review safe operating principals of Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW). Prepare welding equipment for GMAW open root pipe welds. Identify and explain GMAW open-root pipe welds. Safely set up and operate GMAW equipment for pipe welding. Make an open V-Groove pipe weld in the 2G vertical fixed position using the GMAW process. Maintain a safe working environment and apply good housekeeping practices. Follow written and verbal instructions. Note: All competencies outlined in this course syllabus must be completed according to minimum accepted criteria to earn course credit. However, supplemental competencies and/or more stringent criteria may be included for a student to achieve higher level skills or meet specific industry standards. Higher level skill competencies and/or additional criteria must be detailed and documented on the syllabus and Student Competency Record (SCR). It is expected that students will attend scheduled classes regularly and on time. If an absence occurs, it is the responsibility of the student to make up all missed work. Students, who stop attending a course and do not officially withdraw, will receive grades of "0" for all work missed and will result in a punitive final grade.This policy shall be superseded by any more stringent attendance policy required by a regulatory or licensing body having jurisdiction over program requirements. Attendance will be traced and maintained for various reporting purposes. EVALUATION AND GRADING: Grading Scale: A 90-100% B 80-89% C 70-79% D 60-69% F 59% below (Additional evaluation and grading to be completed by the Louisiana Technical College Campus.) ACCEPTANCE CRITERIA: Written Tests: Acceptable written evaluations shall be completed with a minimum score of 70% (C or satisfactory) or above. Safety related written tests may require a higher score for mastery and curriculum specified best practices will be followed. Performance Tests: Acceptable and safe completion of performance tests will be determined by the Instructor (CWE) according to accepted industry standards and the specified criteria. Performance tests meeting minimum industry standards will earn a grade of 70% (C or Satisfactory). Those exceeding "minimum" acceptance standards may earn higher grades subject to the Instructors' approval. Students not meeting minimum acceptance standards must repeat each unacceptable performance test until minimum skills are achieved.
