It provides the student with explanations for variations in surgical procedures experienced in the previous days, how the surgeon determined the course of action for the variations, and allows students to learn from one another's experiences. This course also provides time for students to participate in specialty areas not previously covered and/or time to complete the required number of cases. PREREQUISITES: SURG 1101, SURG 1201, SURG 1301, SURG 1302, SURG 1401, SURG 2201, SURG 2301, SURG 2302 CO-REQUISITE: SURG 2402 COURSE OBJECTIVES: Review, evaluate and share information regarding the operative procedures performed in the clinical site. Identify current operating room situations (such as unusual actions that contaminate the sterile field) and the method in which that situation was addressed. Identify and list alternate methods and techniques for surgical procedures performed in the previous days. Discuss behavioral dynamics and its impact on the operating room. Identify effects that result from a lack of team work in the operation room. Discuss professionalism in the operating room and provide examples. Discuss problem-solving skills used in the operating room. Apply and sit for the Program Assessment Examination.
