Laboratory work requires using tools and fasteners. PREREQUISITES: Acceptable ASSET or COMPASS test scores. COURSE COMPETENCIES: After completing this course, the student should be able to: Review craft specific careers. Review program/facility layout, policy, safety, and health procedures. Develop and apply communication skills needed to follow written and verbal instructions. Develop and apply essential workplace skills. Apply general safety practices to the technical college and the workplace. Interpret a material safety data sheet. Identify basic hand tools and shop equipment. Identify measuring instruments. Use measuring instruments. Identify fasteners. Cut internal and external threads. Identify types of bearings. Remove and install bearings. Identify types of seals. Remove and install seals. Maintain a safe work environment.
