Credits: 3 Prerequisite: NATR 1120, NATR 1112 This course discusses basic silvicultural characteristics and cultural practices found in forest stand improvement, thinning practices and harvesting methods. The management aspect involves the basic components of overall management such as: yearly forest scheduling, the forest management plan, area and volume regulation, and growing stock and allowable cut formulas. The lab includes timber cruising techniques in the field, as well as some scaling of both cord wood and logs. We visit with local foresters, loggers, and industry when possible.
