Topics include distributed data processing networks, OSI model, network protocols, real-time and time-sharing systems, common carrier services, LANs, WANs, signaling, bit rates, cabling, multiplexing, topologies, telecommunication systems, data communication systems, and government regulatory agencies. This course will introduce fundamental data communications and networking concepts. Studies include practical examples of communication networks and the types of communication networks in use in the business world. This course is designed to introduce students to data communication concepts. Career Preparation: The studies in this course will help students prepare for careers in data communication such as Computer Support Specialist, Network Administrator, Network Engineer, Systems Analyst, Systems Engineer, and Business Analyst.
