Credits: 3 Prerequisite: none This class focuses on the study of music industry including: music in the marketplace, songwriting, publishing, copywriting, licensing, merchandising and recording, music management, agents, unions and guilds, television, radio and career development. In addition, it focuses on the ethical questions inherent in each of these areas such as intellectual property rights (illegal music downloading), artistic responsibility (effects of content on listeners), artistic restrictions (Wal- Mart effect, censorship), industry monopolies (Clear Channel radio, corporate ownership of public media).
