How could over 100,000 persons have been executed for the crime of witchcraft in Europe during the 16th and 17th centuries Using approaches from anthropology, women's studies, history, and folklore, the course investigates this complex phenomenon. Texts to be read also include primary documents (theological and scientific treatises, trial records, letters). This course may count toward the German studies major or minor. Capabilities addressed: Critical reading, critical thinking, information technology. Prerequisite: English 102, and a minimum of 30 credits Degree Students Only. 3 Lect Hrs, 3 Credits
