Exploration of the economics of cities - why they form, how peoples' preferences and behaviors shape the urban landscape, and how policy and planning affect urban life. Course uses applied economics to help understand problems in urban issues such as transportation, housing, crime, education, environmental quality, cultural amenities, and employment. Application of economics to several urban policy and planning tools, e.g. zoning, taxation, traffic management, building codes, and public housing.
