Provides students with a legal foundation for understanding the connections between social policy and individual rights. Examines the legal tools available to ensure justice in America, including the U.S. Constitution, pivotal court decisions, and landmark legislation such as the Civil Rights Act, the Fair Housing Act, and the Americans with Disabilities Act. Course touches on issues of race, gender, national origin, and sexual orientation, among other themes. Prerequisites Graduate standing or permission of instructor.
