(Cross-listed as Community Health 186.) Health-related dilemmas faced by nations in the postwar period. Strategies developed to deal with infectious diseases and comparison with those used to combat mortality and morbidity from chronic illnesses. Case studies may include such topics as heart disease, infant mortality, hazardous waste, and AIDS. Also analyzes the health-care system problems of access, quality, and cost. Focus on how resource allocation, political institutions, and cultural myths about health and illnesses affect policy construction.
