BME 0109 - Optical Electronics

Institution:
Tufts University
Subject:
Description:
(Cross-listed as Electrical Engineering 109.) The objective of this course is to provide the foundations of electro-optics from physical optics and quantum mechanics models. Emphasis is placed on gaining physical insight, largely from analyzing experiments and measurements. Class problems address: electro-optics instruments such as ellipsometers and prism-coupled optical waveguides, optics of solids including crystal optics and electro-optic modulation, interference including coherence and Fourier optics, optical detectors, and lasers and other optical sources. There are associated laboratory demonstrations to illustrate many of the course optics, and there is an electro-optics design paper assignment. Prerequisites Prerequisite: Electrical Engineering 18.
