A survey to provide a general understanding of bacteria and viruses. Bacterial structure, growth, ecology, pathogenic mechanisms, and viral life cycles. The laboratory will familiarize students with microbiological methods and various groups of microorganisms. Three lectures, one laboratory per week. One and one-half credits. Prerequisites: one intermediate biology course or equivalent, and Chemistry 2. (Group A.) Prerequisites One intermediate biology course or equivalent, and Chemistry 2.
