BIO 0174 - Biomaterials And Tissue Engineering

Institution:
Tufts University
Subject:
Description:
(Cross-listed as Biomedical Engineering 164 and Chemical and Biological Engineering 164.) Covers synthesis, characterization, and functional properties of organic and inorganic biomaterials and the process of tissue engineering. Fundamental issues related to the utility of biomaterials are explored based on their biocompatability, stability, interfaces, and fate in the body. Clinical applications for biomaterials are explored, as are new directions in design and synthesis to achieve better biocompatibility. Testing methods, regulatory issues, legal constraints, and emerging research directions are also discussed. Prerequisites Permission of instructor.
