3 semester hours This course provides an introduction to the fundamental concepts in operating systems. Topics covered include process scheduling, memory management, inter-process communication, file systems, I/O hardware and software, security and protection, and deadlocks. The design and implementation of centralized operating systems such as UNIX will be covered in depth. Other common and current operating systems will also be discussed. An introduction will be provided to topics in network and distributed operating systems. Prerequisite: CSCI 295. Recommended to be taken in senior year.
