Emphasis on constitutional rights; related responsibility of police; special emphasis on amendments to the Constitution as related to the rights of the individual. Prerequisite: LEJA 212. Terrorism and Criminal Justice. (3) Traces the development of terrorism through groups involved in domestic, religious, international, and state-sponsored terrorism. Emphasis is on providing law enforcement with counter terrorist methods. The Department of Homeland Security and the evolving application of the Patriot Act are explained. Prerequisite: junior standing or consent of instructor. Survey of Homeland Security. (3) Overview of administrative, legislative, and operational entities developed for the protection of the United States. Includes an examination of roles of federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies, as well as the private sector in issues of homeland security. Prerequisite: sophomore standing.
