3 hours. Explores the social construction of race and gender, and evaluates their use in the media. Adapting a research as well as a practical approach to the subject, this course involves students not only in evaluating contemporary media portrayals, but also in composing their own stories involving race/gender topics. Prerequisite(s): junior or senior standing or consent of department. Satisfies a portion of the Understanding the Human Community requirement of the University Core Curriculum.
