09S: 10A In 09S, Conversion, Creation, and Controversy: Buddhism and Daoism in Medieval China. This course examines the complex interaction between Buddhism, Daoism, and traditional Chinese religion in medieval China. During this fascinating historical era Buddhism was integrated into Chinese society and culture and Daoism emerged as a new religion. The two religions were in constant competition and mutually influenced one another. During this course we will examine various topics, including definitions of religion, inter-religious competition, religious debates, conversion, and translation. Dist: TMV. Raz.
