09W: 12 Offered in alternate years A study of modern astrophysics for the advanced physics undergraduate or graduate student who may or may not have previous background in astronomy. The overall theme of the course is the creation of the elements-from the big bang to the current epoch. Physical processes in stellar interiors, stellar evolution, and nucleosynthesis will be emphasized. Starting in the 2003-2004 academic year, no student may receive credit for both Astronomy 74 and Astronomy 115. Prerequisite: Physics 43 and Astronomy 2, 3 or 15, or permission of instructor.
