Not offered in the period from 08F through 10S This course will examine the development of the American working class in relation to four major themes and time periods: the rise of a labor movement and an awareness of social class in the 19th century; trade unionism and labor radicalism during a watershed era of 'incorporation' (1885-1920); the triumph of industrial unionism in the 1930s and '40s; and the development of labor-management relations and working-class culture in post-World War II America.
