08F: 10 This course defines and examines major themes in the development of twentieth century American politics. There are two versions of this course. In 09W: This lecture course explores politics, the presidency, and national policy-making in the twentieth century. Special attention will be paid to the evolution of parties, how individual presidents have defined the powers of the presidency, and to the different ways that modern presidents have responded to changing external demands for national leadership in times of prosperity and peace, economic depression, domestic upheaval, and war.
