10W: 12 This course explores the history of America's relations with the world from the colonial era to 1900. In addition to examining the diplomatic and military dimensions of American interactions with non-Americans, this course also investigates the economic, cultural and ideological dimensions of those interactions. Specific topics include: American relations with Indian nations; the Wars of 1812 and 1898; the Monroe Doctrine; the colonization of Liberia; Manifest Destiny; and U.S. territorial expansion.
