09W, 09F: 10 This course will examine modern Arab history. Earlier nineteenth century history will be examined before turning to twentieth century Arab nationalism; the Arab world in global history; the formation and maintenance of new states; regional rivalries and war; Palestine; and modernization, along with social-particularly that of women-cultural, and religious changes, including the emergence of Islamism.
