08F, 09F, 10S: 2A This course examines the normative and constitutional (textual) bases for protecting certain civil liberties or rights in the United States. The aim is not only to learn the constitutional language of civil liberties but also to think critically about it. Areas covered include: property, race, sex, abortion, religious and cultural rights, sexual freedom and "alternative" marriage, and animal rights. Open to sophomores, juniors, and seniors.
