08F, 10W: 12 This seminar provides an intensive discussion and analysis of Inferno, Purgatory and Paradise. Special attention will be given to Dante's conception of the human being and to critical notions of allegory, autobiography, and the Christian and classical influences which resonate in Dante's epic poem. Essential background reading from the Bible, Virgil, Augustine and Ovid will complement the central text. Text, lectures and discussion in English.
