Description:

This course explores novel ideas in geometry and dynamical systems as they appear in natural phenomena. Irregular patterns in nature can be understood in terms of a fractal geometry. Physical processes that appear to be random actually obey a deterministic law. The concepts of chaos and fractals help us to understand these processes. The course is intended for non-science majors. There is no need for a background in college math. However, knowledge of mathematics at high school level is required. Cr. 3.
