Introduction to origin and classification of minerals and rocks. Relationships among rock types, rock structures, surficial geological processes of running water, sub-surface water, glaciation, wind, waves, tides, and landform evolution. Geologic time. Internal processes, vulcanism, plutonism. Plate tectonics. Two lectures and a laboratory each week. Credit given for only one of the following: G100, S100, G103. Cr. 3. Hours Class 2, Lab. 2.
