A survey of rock and roll music as a uniquely American art form, traced from its roots in Anglo- American folk and country music and African American gospel and blues through its sundry subsequent phases, each viewed within its defining aesthetic, sociocultural, historical, political, and technoeconomic contexts. Preparation for Course P: placement at or above ENG W131 (or equivalent) and exemption from or completion of ENG R150. Cr. 3.
