A study of factors that are important in the design and operation of the hardware necessary to reliably deliver large amounts of electrical energy over substantial areas. Particular emphasis is placed on the factors that limit power handling capability. A review of line parameters and loss mechanisms, high voltage and current limitations in the form of corona, audible noise, radio noise, field effects, and heat transfer are considered.
