Techniques for the syntax-directed translation of modern high-level languages. Topics include grammars and language specification, language design issues, lexical analysis, LL and LR parsing techniques, semantics, symbol table design, code generation, and local optimization. Students are required to implement a compiler for a subset of a structured high-level language such as Pascal or Ada. Preparation for Course P: CS 350. Cr. 3.
