Seeks to develop an appreciation of modern British drama and its relationship to the trends, ethics, and morality of contemporary society. As it was centuries ago, the theatre remains one of the glories of British culture. Despite the influence of film and television, live theatre continues to attract and train the most talented actors, directors, and authors. This course is designed to deepen your enjoyment of the theatrical experience with selected readings and discussion of British plays from classic to contemporary to avant-garde. Field trips include attending several theatre productions; getting to know about human language-its structure, its universality, and its diversity; learning about language in its social and cultural setting, as well as in relation to other aspects of human inquiry and knowledge.
