(216) First semester. Three credits. Two class periods and one 2-hour discussion and laboratory period. Recommended preparation: Introductory chemistry and an animal anatomy and physiology course. Nadeau Focuses on digestive anatomy; the classes of nutrients including their digestion, use and sources. Nutrient requirements and feeding standards for various classes of livestock for reproduction, lactation, growth, work and maintenance are included. Feed requirements, feed laws, feed additives and labeling requirements are also discussed. Attention will also be given to characteristics of common feedstuffs and to formulating rations and nutritional programs for animal enterprise.
