Provides an introduction to the hardware and software issues in interfacing microprocessors to the outside. Includes lab and lecture components to develop the analytical understanding and skills to design the peripheral systems for an embedded microprocessor device. Topics include bus characteristics, timing, and protocols; memory organization; memory-mapped I/O; and interrupts. Also gives the software requirements for implementing these devices into actual systems.
