Surveys the Mandarin Chinese language, focusing on basic pronunciation, grammar, traditional and simplified written characters, and sentence construction. Communication in everyday life, e.g., in restaurants, on public transportation, in health care encounters. Includes interactive learning, role play, media, music, and cultural presentations to enhance understanding and synthesize learning. Provides basic skills and understanding necessary for further Chinese studies and research.
