This class is an expository writing course. Its emphasis is both on content and form: to help students express ideas and convey information in writing with logical reasoning, critical reflection and adequate factual support, and with clarity of purpose, organization, and language. Beyond these fundamental concerns the course encourages students to develop a degree of grace and style, which will make their writing not only clear and convincing, but also interesting and readable. Students are expected to express their ideas with clarity of purpose in a logical, organized manner in four to five longer essays. A minimum grade of "C" (2.0) is required to pass this course. Prerequisite: Successful completion of ENGL 104 Critical Analysis and Semiotics or placement through the English Placement Assessment.
