World Music provides an introduction to non-western musics and the discipline of ethnomusicology with a heavy emphasis on listening, speaking, and critical writing about music. Through case studies from regions around the world, the course explores musical sound, production, and consumption, and investigates the role music plays in culture, through family, community, religion, diaspora, politics, ritual, and aesthetic experience.
