This course is designed to introduce students to some central ideas and perspectives in sociology by examining the construction and maintenance of critical social inequalities. It provides an introduction to classical and contemporary approaches to class relations, status, and social inequality. Topics include Marxian and Weberian analysis, social mobility, class consciousness, class reproduction, and the place of race and gender in the class order.
