Examines gender as a social category{created and recreated through people's social practices and ideas and shaped by economic, political, and social processes. Explores a number of theoretical perspectives and looks at how the social world shapes our knowledge, interpretation, and performance of gender. Special emphasis on how social interactions and institutions may reproduce gender di_erence and gender inequality, and at times, challenge contemporary gender roles, norms, and stereotypes.
